Statewide Survivorship Effort Underway in Georgia

In September 2009 the Georgia Cancer Coalition (GCC) hosted a conference call to begin the conversation about organizing survivorship in Georgia. Angie Patterson, Vice President and COO of the GCC moderated the call. Participants included representatives from cancer centers in Savannah, Atlanta, Valdosta, and Rome. This list is already expanding as we plan for the next call later this month. Our immediate goals are to 1) develop a roster of key people interested in developing survivorship in Georgia, 2) put together a survey to take inventory of current survivorship services and needs, and 3) compile survivorship resources to assist in this effort. If you'd like to be a part of this initiative, please contact Angie at survivorship@georgiacancer.org and give her your name, title, organizational affiliation, address, phone number, and email address. Angie was recently asked to serve on a Survivorship Steering Committee with national leaders in the survivorship movement selected by the Lance Armstrong Foundation for the Cancer Survivorship Centers of Excellence. We look forward to her sharing the information she learns from this important alliance as we move survivorship forward in Georgia.
